Crosstune is a daily music crossword where the clues are based on audio. Instead of solving definitions or trivia questions, the player listens to short song clips and enters the corresponding answers into a crossword grid. There is no story, character progression, or campaign. Each puzzle is a self-contained set of music clues, and the objective is to fill every horizontal and vertical entry correctly.
Each crossword entry has its own audio clue. The player selects a clue, plays the attached music sample, and tries to identify what the puzzle is asking for. Depending on the entry, the answer can be a song title, artist, album, missing phrase, or another music-related term. The length of the answer and its position in the grid provide additional information before any letters are entered.
The main gameplay combines music recognition with standard crossword logic. During a puzzle, the player can:
· select Across or Down entries;
· replay audio clips when needed;
· type answers directly into the grid;
· use crossing letters from solved entries;
· check entered answers;
· reveal clues or letters when additional help is needed;
· complete every entry to finish the puzzle.
Crossing letters are important because some clips may be difficult to recognize immediately. Solving an easier song can fill several letters in another answer, narrowing down the possible artist or title. This also means the puzzle does not have to be solved in a fixed order. Players can skip an unfamiliar clip, complete other parts of the grid, and return once more letters are available.
Crosstune provides a new main crossword each day. The game also supports themed puzzles, which can focus on a particular musical subject or selection of tracks. Custom Crosstune puzzles can be created as well, using the same combination of audio clues and crossword entries.
To play, the user chooses an entry, listens to its clip, identifies the requested music-related answer, and types it into the available spaces. Correct answers provide letters for intersecting entries until the entire grid is filled. There are no enemies, upgrades, inventories, or traditional levels. Progress within each puzzle is measured by how much of the crossword has been completed and how effectively the player uses audio recognition together with crossing-letter clues.
