Waffle Game

Waffle Game is a daily word puzzle where the player rearranges letters on a waffle-shaped grid to form six correct words. Three words run horizontally and three vertically, sharing several letters at their intersections. There is no story, character progression, or campaign. Each puzzle begins with all required letters already on the board, but many of them are placed incorrectly. The goal is to solve the entire grid using as few swaps as possible.

Rearranging the Letters

The player can drag any letter onto another position to swap them. Every move changes two tiles, so planning several steps ahead is important. Letters also change color to provide information about their placement. A correctly positioned letter is marked differently from one that belongs in the same word but is currently in the wrong position. Corner letters can belong to both a horizontal and vertical word, which can make them harder to interpret.

Swaps and Clues

A standard Waffle can be completed in a minimum of 10 swaps, while the player is given up to 15. The main mechanics include:

·         rearranging letters between any two cells;

·         forming three horizontal and three vertical words;

·         using color feedback to identify correct and misplaced letters;

·         handling repeated letters within the same word;

·         tracking the number of swaps remaining;

·         earning stars for unused swaps after the puzzle is solved.

The game awards one star for every swap left after completion. Solving the puzzle in exactly 10 swaps therefore gives the maximum five stars. If all 15 swaps are used before the solution is finished, the player can still continue trying, but no stars are awarded for that puzzle.

Other Puzzle Modes

Waffle Game also contains variations of the main format. Deluxe Waffle provides a larger weekly puzzle, while Number Waffle replaces words with numbers and asks the player to arrange each row and column so that they contain the numbers 1 to 7. Challenge mode gives 90 seconds to solve as many Waffles as possible, and Puzzle Packs contain groups of ten puzzles. An Archive also allows older Daily and Deluxe puzzles to be played again.

To play the standard mode, the player studies the colored letters, identifies possible words, and swaps tiles until every horizontal and vertical entry is correct. Because every puzzle has an optimal 10-swap solution, the main challenge is not only finding all six words but arranging the letters efficiently enough to keep as many swaps unused as possible.
