MapTap is a geography game where the player has to identify real locations on a 3D globe. The main daily challenge contains five places connected to historical events that happened on the same calendar date. For each round, the player reads the prompt, rotates the globe, chooses a position, and confirms the guess. The closer the selected point is to the correct location, the higher the score. After the answer is revealed, the game also shows the event connected to that place.

The central mechanic is based on spatial knowledge rather than multiple-choice questions. The globe can be moved and zoomed before a guess is placed. Once the player confirms the position, MapTap measures the distance from the real location and awards points according to accuracy. The correct place is then shown, allowing the player to compare the guess with the actual answer before moving to the next round.
MapTap includes several modes that use the same location-finding mechanic in different ways:
· Daily Game with five locations;
· Find the Flag with five country-based rounds;
· Gauntlet with a timed set of locations;
· Frontier, where one poor guess can end the run;
· Versus matches against another player across five locations;
· practice maps focused on countries, cities, rivers, borders, and other geography topics;
· historical journeys that follow routes such as Magellan’s expedition, Darwin’s voyage, Nellie Bly’s trip, and Ibn Battuta’s travels.
Some modes are designed around repeated practice, while others add time pressure or survival rules. Versus gives both players the same group of locations and compares their results. Frontier is stricter because one inaccurate guess can finish the session. Gauntlet focuses on speed, and practice maps let the player continue with additional locations after a set is completed.
There are no traditional story levels, characters, enemies, or combat. Progress is measured through location accuracy, completed rounds, scores, streaks, achievements, and results in the different modes. In the daily challenge, all five scores are combined into one final result. Historical information is revealed after each answer, so every round ends with both the correct map position and a short explanation of what happened there.
To play MapTap, the player reads the location clue, rotates and zooms the globe, taps the estimated position, and confirms the choice. The same basic action is used throughout the game, while the rules around it change depending on whether the player chooses Daily Game, practice, Gauntlet, Frontier, Versus, or another map challenge.
